Kreibaum.de: My tops
My favourites in music, books and movies...:
This is just a roughly sorted collection (probably with gaps and
changing from time to time) - but IMHO when it comes to feelings, it's ok to
argue, but not to object... so comments are welcome!
The links set are google queries.
Music
- REM: Nightswimming (Automatic for the people, 1992) - definitely my #1
- The Temptations: Papa Was A Rolling Stone (don't know exactly when, but it's always been one of my favourites - and George Michael did a good job with his version (Killer))
- Dire Straits: Brothers In Arms (Brothers in Arms, 1985, probably the best album...)
- Faithless: Insomnia and of course Salva Mea (1995)
- Chicane: Saltwater (Behind The Sun, 1999)
- Riverdance: Reel Around The Sun (Riverdance Soundtrack, 1996?) if they happen to be on tour somewhere, watch their show - it's great! And by the way a great warm-up for spinning (Hi Sonja ;-)!
- Elgar: Pomp and Circumstance (Live, Last Night of the Proms, 1994) - the annual event in september, though I haven't had the chance to be their personally.
- Sir Henry J. Wood: Fantasia On British Sea Songs (Live, Last Night of the Proms, 1994) - dito
- Thomas Augustine Arne: Rule Britannia! (Live, Last Night of the Proms, 1994) - same as before!
- Monty Python: Always Look On The Bright Side Of Live (Monty Python sings, 1991)
- Page & Plant: Kashmir (No Quarter, live, 1994) - say hello, Godzilla...
- Pink Floyd: Wish You Were Here (Wish You Were Here, 1975)
- Die Fantastischen 4: Tag am Meer (Unplugged, ?)
- Jethro Tull: Skating Away (On The Thin Ice Of The New Day) (War Child, 1974)
- Rodrigo: Concierto de Aranjuez, Adagio
- Orff: Fortuna Imperatrix Mundi (Carmina Burana)
- Grieg: Peer Gynt - The hall of the mountain king
- Copland: Fanfare for the common man
- Prokofiev: Lieutenant Kije, Suit. op. 60, Troika
- Klaus Hoffmann: Kann nicht verzeihen - with greetings to H.: 1. Cor 13, 4-7
- Still too many to list them separately:
Al Stewart, Alan Parsons, Kate Bush, Carmel, Clannad, Enya, Fleetwood Mac, Fury in the Slaughterhouse (in memory of the concert in the Capitol in Hanover...), Genesis (again Hanover, in the stadium), Gershwin, Heinz Rudolf Kunze (much earlier, back in Hildesheim - small but great ;-), Billy Joel, Marillion, Pink Floyd, Paul Simon, Bruce Springsteen, Supertramp, The Blues Brothers, The Simple Minds, Tears for Fears, U2, Yes - and still a lot more, that I can't remember right now...
Movies
Never mind videos, but a real visit at the cinema (with snacks a a large screen) can't be replaced!
- Driving Miss Daisy (1989)
- The life of Brian (1979)
- Four Weddings and a Funeral (1993)
- Harold and Maude (1971)
- Grosse Point Blank (1997)
- High Fidelity (2000)
- Die hard... ok, just to relax a little... ;-)
Books...
Apart from the numerous good books that I remember, there are a few that I've read more than once... still I'd like to send a big "Thank you!" to every author whose books I've had the pleasure to read "only" once!
- Douglas Adams: The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy (for fans: try to get the original tapes from the BBC radio broadcasts!)
- Douglas Adams: Last chance to see
- Philip K. Dick: Ubik
- Shea/Wilson: Illuminatus!
- Isaac Asimov: Foundation...
- Larry Niven: Ringworld...
- Arthur C. Clarke: Rama...
- J.R.R. Tolkien: Lord of the Rings
- Hofstadter: Goedel, Escher, Bach (although I'll probably never really understand it...)
- Stephen Hawking: Eine kleine Geschichte... (dito ;-)
- John Brunner: Stand on Zanzibar; The Shockwaverider; The Sheep look up
Just to (more or less) complete the list: Ernest Hemingway, Kurt Tucholsky, Terry Pratchett, Martha Grimes,...
Well, this would be dthe place to list my flops as well - but I rather forget them as soon as possible ;-)
